Have you ever noticed that fashion changes so fast that majority of people cannot afford to keep up?! This means we are condemned to live in last season’s clothing (or the season before that) and be marked as having no fashion sense. But, in a way maybe the unstylish are simply the leaders that do not conform through the realization of its results.
I have a Fashion Design degree, but yet my intellect struggles with the idea of design. I see that it is an industry focused of creating unrealistic "needs" and unsatisfactory people. What has the fashion industry ever done for mankind? I mean it can bring beauty and joy, but because of our continues desire of approval by others it has turned into impossible standards. The standards are created by people that we have given power to control our own view of ourselves. We seek their approval, but in reality who is to say what beauty is?
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. We all know that, but for some reason we all look through the eyes that have been created by our culture. We no longer have our own eyes to determine true beauty and therefore have lost our understanding of it. Design has created its own nemesis...standards of unrealistic expectations limited by the approval of the select few.
This is a movement to understanding true beauty and the limitless opportunities design and creativity can bring through the eyes of each individual. It will contain ideas and unanswered questions that have no one true answer...
